Ravenol WIV III becomes Ravenol SMP

WIV becomes SMP

The term WIV = Wartungsintervallverlängerung was invented by VW and means maintenance interval extension. With this term the Longlife oils were declared and bottled by VW.

In the course of time more and more oil manufacturers have used this term. As soon as an oil withstood the Longlife designation and a corresponding VW approval was issued, the oil was also given the designation WIV.

Additive packages continue to develop

In addition to engine oils, additive packages are also developing further and further and are partly responsible for the fact that engine oils are more universal than ever. The oils can fulfil several approvals from different manufacturers at the same time.

Where at that time the VW release was achieved and the oil with this additive package could be used exclusively for VW engines, such oils can now also be used in engines of other manufacturers.

From WIV III 5W-30 to SMP 5W-30

Ravenol SMP 5W-30

Due to this development, the oil manufacturer Ravenol has decided to take the very popular Ravenol WIV III further. This has resulted in the Ravenol SMP 5W-30. A fundamentally new additive package was developed for this purpose. The very one-dimensional name WIV III would be more of a downgrading than an upgrading for the wide range of new releases that the oil now has.
