Weithout an engine oil the entire vehicle couldn´t work. It has thereby a variety of tasks in the motor: lubrication, wear and corrosion protection, cooling et al. However, engine oil is not always only one engine oil, it varies in it´s composition. The engine of your car can thus need a mineral oil (base oil derived from petroleum directly), semi-synthetic oil (blend of mineral oil and synthetic oil) or fully synthetic oil (synthetically produced oil). The oil for two motorcycles differs in engine oil for the two popular engine variants. Apart from the different types of production, the viscosity is an important criterion. A viscosity of 0W is currently the thinnest fluid oil for a car and its engine. A higher viscosity indicates thicker oil. A recommended engine oil doesn´t show a viscosity of 10W but 10W-30 or 10W-40. This encoding means a multigrade oil. A one area oil as the 10W is designed primarily for certain months of the year. Multigrade oil like 10W-40 is designed for the whole year.
Synonymous with the viscosity is the specification of engine oil. Among the best known include SAE and ACEA. As designated by car manufacturers or institutions directives and values for an oil may only carry this marking an engine oil, if it meets the predefined policies.
So you know that your car needs an engine oil with a certain viscosity and a specification as SAE or ACEA arises for you as a buyer, only the question of the product manufacturer. In here, brands like Liqui Moly or Castrol are often used because it promises a very high quality by reputation. So is only a motor oil of Liqui Moly or Castrol good for your car? Definitely not! Even manufacturers like Ravenol or Aveno are on par with the engine oil quality by Liqui Moly and Castrol products. As described, also have this one marking such as SAE or ACEA and meet international standards. So do not buy your oil unnecessarily inflated prices per liter, because for much less money per liter to obtain a product of equal quality.
